Kinja'd!!!

I know that post on the FP is supposed to be tongue in cheek and all, but I for one am excited. I have been waiting to get a new car for a long time and the news of the upgrades and performance pack has me pretty much sold.

I’m just genuinely surprised with how many engine components they swapped out and how little gains they got. Just confused that’s all.

But how much does the PP cost? Having driven a FRS, it was fun, but flawed. The biggest flaw was the engine. That’s one reason I ended up with a FiST, it’s just way more fun.

But for the money you could get a Mustang Ecoboost with 100 more horsepower and 150 more ft-lb of torque...

Hopefully to resolve the mid-range torque dip ... would be interested to see dyno graphs

And since no frame changes I’ll be able to swap all those goodies on my ‘13 once the drift kiddos start crashing their 17s

Looking at you brakes, cylinder heads (depending on flow bench testing) and 4.3 final drive...

Surprised they are going with an aluminum intake manifold seems like a step backward.

The Mustang is probably less fun, only slightly, but a much better all rounder. After driving an FRS, I was sold on the FiST.

I am going to agree with RiceRocketeer and say that they were probably changing parts with the goal of tweaking the characteristics of the engine and just happened to get 5 extra horsepower.

They still have efficiency, emission, durability and cost constraints. There's only so much hp/l you can squeeze out while still meeting those.

There’s one guy in the community doing a strong NA build the right way, and he is not expecting significant gains in terms of HP/TQ really.

Here’s 35 pages worth of reading:

Did someone say SACHS Performance shocks?

Kinja'd!!!

Although SACHS is actually OE on all MY15+. I’m guessing it’s just a revalved damper, but I’d be curious if they changed spring rates at all too.

I read a quote on the forums somewhere that I can'y find right now about "improved midrange response" so hopefully that means the torque dip

Everyone on the FP rabbling about them not adding more power still doesn’t understand the car, and most likely wouldn’t buy one even if it got a turbo. Then they’d just complain that the car costs $30k+.

The whole point of the 2017 refresh wasn’t a revolutionary change, but rather a honing of the package. I like the idea of the performance package with the brakes and (presumably) revalved dampers, depending on price of course. And some of the interior tweaks are nice, although I’m not crazy about some either.

It’ll be a nice car, but nothing worth trading in an older model for. I’ll wait for the Initial D wannabe hardparkers to wreck their cars, and then pick and choose the bits I like from their part outs.

The performance pack is for the lower of the two trims so the final price should be reasonable I would imagine. I have thought about a FiST as I like a good hot hatch, but I really want a RWD coupe after driving a FWD hatchback for the past 7 years.

Not true.

I like the car. I drove one. Even at 30K if it had 250hp/250tq from a 4 cyl turbo I would have totally bought one. As it is? Pass. And I’m not just some keyboard warrior talking about things I can’t buy anyways: I bought an Ecoboost Mustang instead.

Which is why I used the qualifier “most likely.” I know it’d entice some buyers, but I think there’s far more talk than walk for the company to justify it.

Kinja'd!!! Jayhawk Jake > Chris_K_F drives an FR-Slow
05/26/2016 at 14:51

I don’t think so. I think enough people are buying cars like the Mustang to justify it.

I do very much like the Ecoboost Mustang, and have considered more than once trading the FR-S in for an Ecoboost or GT.

But for now, I’m enjoying chasing down the faster cars in my FR-Slow. ;)

From Left Lane News:

a Brembo brake upgrade, Sachs shocks and unique 17-inch wheels.

If those wheels come with good tires, that would make a lot of sense. The 86 is not an unappealing car; it just needs a few touches like this. And 40-50 extra horse. I mean come on... it’s roughly the same weight as the S2000, with 40 fewer advertised bhp.

Kinja'd!!! Jayhawk Jake > Chris_K_F drives an FR-Slow

Kinja'd!!!0

I’m not knocking the FRS as it is. It’s a fun car. But you can’t deny it would be way more fun with a turbo. It doesn’t need THAT much power. Just enough to get it to 5.5 seconds to 60 or less.

Kinja'd!!! Jordan and the Slowrunner, Boomer Intensifies > Baskingshark
05/26/2016 at 14:54

Kinja'd!!!0

I’m going to guess it’s going to be at least 5k difference. I couldn’t justify paying that much for a less fun car, just to have RWD. I went from RWD to FWD and have not a single regret. Except not working harder and getting one sooner.

05/26/2016 at 15:03

Kinja'd!!!0

I’m not saying it can’t be more fun, but I think it’d also be a different kind of fun. There’s something more rewarding about catching an M4, Boss 302, Corvette, etc in what many people consider to be a significantly under powered car at a track day.

Wait until there’s info on the power band. HP and torque figures are a personal preference thing, but the severe torque dip is a flaw.

I don’t remember exactly, but basically as much as possible. I’m guessing mid-200 range on pump gas.

That’s not bad. I still think around 250hp would be perfect for the car. Hell 225 would be a big improvement.

It'll be interesting to see how the do the option. Will they be custom calipers or just adapters for the same ones Subaru has used forever. That would keep costs down.

Just not a fan of the whole speaker sound thing. I’d rather just hear a four cylinder.

No, just videos. Regardless, I don’t need to drive one to oppose the method on principal. I don’t generally like the idea of the enhancers that use the symposer, and have much less disdain for the exhaust chamber on the older Mustangs. I just can’t get behind the speaker thing. I’d be a lot more interested if they let you turn it off.

That’s like saying you don’t like chocolate but you’ve never tried it. You just can’t support bean based candy.

Try it, you'll be surprised. It's fun and gives the car a nice sound. It's not like I don't know it's fake, but I enjoy it and many people have complimented it
